Program Trainer Service Dogs

Thank you for your interest in our program trained service dogs. We run a small program training group that trains and places service and guide dogs with the disabled public. We prefer local applicants but we have placed dogs any ware from California to New York. We reserve program dogs for those that are not capable of owner training their own dog.

There is currently a wait of about one and a half years to receive a dog from our program. The amount of time and training that goes into these dogs can be a very slow process. We are very careful to fully train and test every dog that we graduate to make sure only service dogs in top training condition are working in public. We train every dog to exactly what the new handler / owner will need. With each dog completely customized we are able to offer service and guide dogs to people that are turned down by other programs due to multiple disabilities. Often people require dogs that can be trained to work with multiple disabilities such as hearing loss with balance work or vision loss with wheelchair pulling work. We are able to work with the new owner's needs to make a perfect match.

We work with many breeds of dogs in our program. We rely heavily on donations of dogs and puppies from breeders and rescue groups to keep the program running. We have many breeds and crosses in our program because often times having just one breed available may not work for a new owner. The non shedding breeds help handlers that have allergies, the little guys make great hearing dogs without the high feed bill and are easier to keep in an apartment, and some of the "pit" breeds can pull a wheel chair with ease with far less joint problems. There are just so many different reasons why different breeds and mixes work well.

Our donated puppies and young adults spend the first one to two years of their life living with a puppy raiser. These amazing volunteers take in a puppy, attend training classes through their entire time together, and do all of their public access socialization training. After leaving the puppy raiser, a service dog in training enters our advanced program. This is when we put specialty training on the dogs to help their new owners. After months of intense training is graduation. At this time the new owner / handler comes out for team training. The owner and service dog learn to work together and become a true team. Not all dogs in the program are cut out for life as a service dog. These dogs become available for adoption as family pets to the general public. If you are interested in one of out "almost graduated" dogs check out their link on our service dog page.
